$1 Skirt and $2 Blouse

It has been a while since my last post.  I have been sewing, but I haven't been sewing clothes until last week. I had two pieces of fabric that I bought in the bargain bin. I made a $2 blouse and a $1 skirt, the thread, buttons (5 mix and match buttons from a button tub) and zipper (a metal invisible zipper) I already had in my stash of stuff. The clothes came out fantastic, better than I ever expected.
$1 Super Soft Twill
$2 Bargain Fabric

The $1 Skirt:  This twill fabric was so soft to the touch, I wanted to make something memorable out of it (I've had it over 10 years, no joke). The downside of the fabric was, the purple word "Sample" stamped in various places, so it wasn't supposed to be sewn for clothes, but I thought what they hay, it is only $1. I've pulled it out many times just to touch and ponder the limited possibilities, only to put it back thinking, "What could I make where people can see the word sample on it, and not think that is odd."  (At the time of purchase, I thought I could, but the fashion police, my family, assured me that was not the case.) So I finally had moment of clarity, and thought of a much loved skirt pattern that didn't require a lot of fabric. If I was very careful I would be able to use this fabric and the word sample would not be seen anywhere.

The $2 blouse:  Other than saying it was an awesome piece of fabric, that I just didn't want to screw up. Being a larger person, a little doesn't go a long way. I wanted a button down blouse and I only had 1.33 yards of fabric. So with a creative layout, I managed to eek out this blouse.

Date Night Outfit

A notions side note: I had this zipper a lady gave me a long time ago, it doesn't match the skirt but it does go along with the theme of economy. If you've ever bought a tub of buttons it is truly amazing how many things you can put buttons on, if you buy a tub with a large variety. Now on my blouse I used 5 buttons, only two actually matched, but I really don't think it was too noticeable (You cannot tell in the picture, no one noticed in person either. I think only a fellow sewer, who knew you'd sewn the garment, would take notice of mixed matched buttons.). Usually I can get them all to match but with this project I was going on a date with my hubby and I wanted to wear something new; I had a limited time to make it, so I used only what I already had on hand.
